Committee will collect for playground gear
A committee has been formed to try to replace the playground equipment that was removed from La Jolla Shores’ Kellogg Park by the city due to safety issues.
The committee will set up a table near the playground this weekend, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 24, 25 and 26, to collect donations. Those who donate $5 will receive blue “KPplayground.com” wristbands. Anyone contributing $250 or more will be thanked on a permanent plaque.
Volunteers are needed to help collect donations.

LJ Historical Society to receive award
The City of San Diego Historical Resources Board will present its 2008 annual Historic Preservation Award to La Jolla Historical Society today, May 22, at 1 p.m.
The award is being given to La Jolla Historical Society, the Kumeyaay Cultural Repatriation Committee and the University of California, San Diego for their work in preserving the UCSD Chancellor’s House.
The ceremony will take place at the City Administration Building, 202 C St., 12th floor.
Originally slated for demolition, the Chancellor’s House at La Jolla Farms will now be renovated.
Viking Vines & Vintners to taste the grape
The third annual Viking Vines and Vintners fund-raiser is slated for Saturday, May 31, from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
The Foundation of La Jolla High School will host the event as a fund-raiser for the school, which is facing budget cuts at the state level.
The wine tasting will be held at La Jolla Country Club. Guests will sample wines donated by event sponsor The Wine Bank, and will receive a special inscribed wine-tasting glass to take home.
The benefit will also include a silent auction, appetizers and a wine-paired dinner.
Tickets are $75 per person.

Wellness Fair marks Senior Health Day
San Diego seniors are invited to stop by Classic Residence by Hyatt at La Jolla Village next Wednesday, May 28 for a wellness fair.
The fair marks National Senior Health and Fitness Day with a walk on Mission Beach, chair yoga, seminars on pet therapy and getting up from a fall, a guest speaker on pain management, equipment demonstrations and healthy refreshments.
The free wellness fair begins with the beach walk at 7:30 a.m.
Classic Residence by Hyatt at La Jolla Village is located at 8515 Costa Verde Blvd.
