Planning group elects 3
La Jolla Community Planning Association (LJCPA) members voted three area residents onto the board during a special election Aug. 7, and will seat them during the group’s September meeting.
Tom Brady, Bob Collins and Mike Costello ran for three LJCPA vacancies during the monthly meeting. Although all succeeded at their election goals, Costello and Collins won longer terms, extending to 2010, while Brady’s term ends in 2009.
LJCPA, an advisory group to the City of San Diego, appoints volunteers to local committees, including Planned District Ordinance, Coastal Development Permit, La Jolla Shores Permit Review, Traffic & Transportation and La Jolla Parking Advisory Board.
LJCPA Chair Joe LaCava said the group represents La Jollans regarding local planning affairs, and trustees sitting on the board are the voices for local projects that come before them.
Costello said he helped form a Bird Rock Beautification Committee to establish a Maintenance Assessment District and will focus on continuing that community service. Collins said he has been involved in the community since 1964, and will support the La Jolla Community Plan. Brady said he has resided in La Jolla for 41 years, and will actively serve as a member of the LJCPA.
The LJCPA board meets the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at La Jolla Recreation Center, 615 Prospect St. For more information, go to www.lajollacpa.org or call (858) 456-7900.
