Ali West has joined the team at Mission Bay High School in the role of vice principal. She is a native San Diegan and a product of SDUSD. She has been an educator in San Diego for 12 years teaching middle school and high school science. She has worked in both project-based and traditional school settings in San Diego County and has enjoyed the diversity of learning experiences she has been able to offer her students.

Prior to teaching in San Diego, West served for two years as a teacher volunteer in the United States Peace Corps in a rural village in Namibia, Africa. West also spent a semester during college studying abroad in Brisbane, Australia as part of her undergraduate course work.

West holds a master’s of arts in educational leadership (K-12) and an administrative credential from San Diego State University, as well as a bachelor of science in biological sciences from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo.

Her core values remain focused on equity, integrity, and building strong relationships. West believes that all students should see their culture and life experiences reflected in the school environment and education they receive, and should feel safe, valued, and free to ask questions and grow. West is passionate about helping students actualize their greatest potential and leave high school as life-long learners prepared to live, lead, and contribute to their community and the world in a meaningful way.

She is a mother to three elementary-aged daughters (two of which are twins). When West is not at school, she enjoys traveling, stand-up paddleboarding in Mission Bay, practicing yoga and doing fun outdoor activities in the sunshine or water with her daughters.
