There was a changing of the guard at Point Loma Rotary Club recently as outgoing president Capt. Gus Goldau relinquished the helm to incoming 2022-23 president Robert Cenko.
Special mention goes to Sharon Osbourne, who was awarded Point Loma Rotarian of the Year.
The changeover took place at the Point Loma Rotary Club 2021-2022 Presidential Demotion Dinner held June 26 at the Southwestern Yacht Club, the site of many of the club’s Friday luncheons.
“It is one of the most important dinners for our club because it recognizes all of our accomplishments for the year,” said Margaret Virissimo, the club’s 2022-23 fundraising chair. “The dinner also is to honor all the wonderful accomplishments for the 2022 year.”
Virissimo said guests, Rotarians, and VIP dignitaries enjoyed a happy hour followed by a catered meal to honor both presidents and the club. “It was a fun, celebratory event to be able to gather back together in person amid COVID in the heart of Point Loma,” she said. “Guests shared laughs, ideas, and memories throughout the evening. It was also a great moment to introduce our new club members to the community.”
The Point Loma Rotary Club was founded on April 17, 1950. It was incorporated in 1952. Rotary Foundation, the charitable arm of Rotary International, was founded in 1917. Point Loma Rotary Club Endowment Fund, the charitable arm of the club, was incorporated in 1983.
