NEW MURAL INSTALLED IN LA JOLLA 

A new mural was recently installed at 7540 Fay Ave., as a part of the Murals of La Jolla project by the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. The mural, “Bill 2” is by Alex Katz and celebrates Bill T. Jones, one of the most noted and recognized modern-dance choreographers of our time.

Bill 2, is a striking homage to two artists, Katz and Jones, both renowned in their respective fields of visual and performing arts. The mural’s proximity to the new Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center gives a nod to the interconnected worlds of art, music, and dance.

HOTTEST WING EATING CONTEST 

Sandbox Pizza and Wings will host its second annual “Hottest Wing Eating” Contest from 2-4 p.m., May 19 at 1014 Grand Ave. Each round will start with a wing hotter than previous round! The last person standing wins $500 cash. Free to enter. Visit sandboxsd.com. 

SAN DIEGO OPERA JOINS ‘THE ENCHANTED TAIL’ AT POINT LOMA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY  

The San Diego Opera is set to join forces with “The Enchanted Tail” for a free, 40-minute opera from 1:30-3:30 p.m. June 1 at the Greek Amphitheater at Point Loma Nazarene University, 3900 Lomaland Drive.

The performance will feature the music of Mozart, Verdi, and Rossini to tell the story of a princess and a fox. The opera will be performed in English and was created by San Diego Opera chorister Victoria Robertson alongside opera singer Bernardo Bermudez. For more information, visit pointloma.edu.

FRIENDSHIP WALK 2019 

The annual Friendship Walk will be held at 8 a.m., June 2 at Liberty Station NTC Park. The family walk raises crucial funds and community awareness for Friendship Circle and individuals with special needs. 

Enjoy family-friendly games, activities, entertainment provided by Circus Mafia, bounce house and inflatable obstacle course, family resources, and more. Volunteers are needed for day-of as well! Go to FriendshipWalkSD.com to register.

MATT DAMON ENVIRONMENTAL DOCUMENTARY

“Dispatches from the Gulf,” a documentary narrated by Matt Damon, will be shown at 7 p.m., June 12 at Sumner Auditorium, 8595 La Jolla Shores Drive. Sponsored by the San Diego Chapter of the American Cetacean Society. Free. Street parking only.

PENINSULA SINGERS PRESENT ‘CLASSIC(AL) ROCKS!’

The Peninsula Singers will present “Classic(al) Rocks!,” at 7 p.m. June 14 at All Souls Episcopal Church, 1475 Catalina Blvd. Classical pieces like In “Paradisum,” “How Lovely Are the Messengers,” and “Ubi Caritas,” will join rock songs like “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” “Beautiful Day,” and a selection of songs from a Beatles medley. Peninsula Singers will also perform Led Zeppelin and a head-banging rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. 

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students, seniors and military. Children age 10 and under may attend for free.
