
San Diego Lifeguards estimate 258,750 people made their way to San Diego beaches on Monday, July 4. Add that number to 155,000 people on Saturday and 185,800 on Sunday for a total of 599,550 beachgoers over the weekend. There were 344 rescues made on July 4 and a total of 783 rescues at the beaches over the three-day weekend. These totals compare to 537,200 people at the beaches over the three-day Fourth of July weekend in 2015, when lifeguards performed 154 rescues. In 2014, 954,000 beachgoers were out during the three-day holiday weekend and there were 468 rescues.
