MISSION BAY— The public can help fight brain tumors by joining more than 700 participants in the ninth annual San Diego Brain Tumor Walk in Mission Bay Park on Saturday, Sept. 11. The devastating consequences of brain tumors have affected hundreds of families in the San Diego area. Each day, more than 575 people in the U.S. and Canada are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor, with only 30 percent of patients surviving the first five years after their diagnosis. Proceeds from the 5K will go to the National Brain Tumor Society to raise funds for brain tumor research. Registration for the walk begins at 8 a.m. and activities including food, music and prizes will take place from 9 a.m. until noon. Participants in the walk will get food, beverages and full access to event activities. Fees are $50 for adults, $25 for ages 6-17, and free for ages 5 and under. Register online at www.SDWalk.org or toll-free at (866) 455-3214.
