Playing a mod-inspired mix of soul and powerpop, you’d be hard pressed to find a band playing more hook-filled material than Orange County’s Suedehead. Appearing at The Griffin on Sept. 27, Suedehead’s way with a melody is refreshing. Each song it has released to date, like the dance-floor friendly “Can’t Stop,” sounds like a long-lost hit single, full of Motown’s driving beats and The Jam’s manic energy. Despite a clear nod to the mod sounds of the 1960s and ’80s, Suedehead is no retro act. This is music meant to get the heart pounding and the feet tapping.
