Tom Petty is a regular visitor to San Diego, but such is the demand for his music that several Petty cover bands have popped up to fill the void. The best of the bunch is Full Moon Fever, a five-piece band with a repertoire four-dozen songs strong. Their sets include hits from throughout Petty’s career, from “American Girl” to the “Last DJ,” as well as deeper catalog tracks like Petty’s cover of the Byrds, “Feel A Whole Lot Better.” Full Moon Fever doesn’t go the blonde wig and top hat route for its performances, preferring to stick to the music and playing the tunes as close to the real thing as possible. There are few artists that have the universal appeal of Petty. Full Moon fever does his music justice.
