The Griffin has only been open a few weeks, but it’s already clear this is going to be a major force in local music, showcasing such up-and-coming artists as hard-rock quartet Family Wagon, which performs on Sept. 16. While not retro in the slightest, the four-piece group takes its influences from the classics, performing tracks akin to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, with songs like “Hi, Hi, Goodbye” leaning toward Grand Funk Railroad. In lesser hands this might seem limiting, but the band has the chops, songwriting skills and youthful energy to pull it off. Indeed, its tunes would slot seamlessly among those they are influenced by. Family Wagon performs at 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 at The Griffin, 1310 Morena Blvd. 21 and up. www.myspace.com/familywagonmusic
