‘Must-catch’ acts to watch for at the Ocean Beach Street Fair

With 39 performance acts taking part in this year’s street fair, there is no shortage of options for world-class entertainment. The music kicks off 10 a.m., with all stages accessible to all ages. Here are a few of this year’s highlights: • Stoney B Blues Band / Artists Alley Stage, 6 p.m. One of the busiest combos in town, The Stoney B Blues Band is custom-made to get a crowd dancing and having a good time. Arriving in San Diego from New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina, Stoney B and his crew have quickly established themselves as one of the premier blues acts in the Southland. • Kim Monroe & Chris Eves / Bacon Sun Stage, 11 a.m. Hailing from New York, singer-songwriter Kim Monroe performs Americana tunes, highlighted by the slide guitar and harmony vocals of Chris Eves. Blessed with a soulful voice and sporting an arsenal of great tunes, Monroe is a major talent primed for a breakout on a national level. • Todo Mundo / Wonderland Stage, 3:45 p.m. Performing world music with a difference, Todo Mundo includes Latin influences, as well as touches of folk and reggae, for a sound that’s heavy on rhythm and 100 percent danceable. Give one song a listen and it will be instantly clear why Todo Mundo has remained one of San Diego’s most popular bands for years. Bad Science Fiction / 92107 Stage, 4:30 p.m. Difficult to pigeonhole, Bad Science Fiction is equal parts indie rock, Americana, ex-perimental music and fun. Headed by Chuck Schiele, the group has a visual element to its performances, but it’s Schiele’s rockin’ tunes that truly capture your attention. • Skid Roper / Wonderland Stage, 5 p.m. Perhaps best known as half of a duo with Mojo Nixon during the 1980s, Skid Roper is a San Diego institution and musical virtuoso. For this performance Roper will be in surf-music mode, playing a mix of classic and originals. From the first notes, it’ll be clear why Roper is considered one of the best guitarists in town.
