Music As You Like It, which was established in 1973, is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

As the longest-running talent agency in San Diego, Music As You Like It has produced more than 27,000 events around the country. They provide live music, professional DJ services, novelty acts, and themed events with solo performers to orchestras, mariachis to marching bands, and headliner entertainment to local talent.

Keith Danon, the CEO of Music As You Like It, strives to make each event special and memorable using his creativity. A member of the Ocean Beach community for 51 years, he has seen changes in both Ocean Beach and the entertainment world. He continues “selling fun” whenever needed.

He has been interested in music and entertainment since he was a youth and a magician growing up in Pasadena. He was intrigued by the old “sock hops,” which started in the early 1940s providing funds for World War II. In the 1950s, sock hops evolved with two turntables, larger speakers, lighting, and a disc jockey making announcements to the kids. In 1957, the nationwide hit “At the Hop” by Danny and the Juniors further created interest in this trend.

After Danon graduated from SDSU in the 1970s and became youth director for Admiral Hartman, a naval housing facility, he had an opportunity to utilize the microphone and had records to play. That experience started his entertainment career and he decided to start his own talent agency booking hundreds of different types of acts for corporate events, weddings, military, and a host of other clients.

Danon said he is elated and proud of what they have done over the past 50 years with their creativity and resources for a variety of events. He added that he always plans to make a great quality event by being organized, passionate, and implementing the sales techniques to make it a success.

“We have gotten so many pats on the back and awards over the years that it has been a humbling experience,” said Danon. “Just to keep on making people happy, one event after event!”

Music As You Like It designs an event for groups of 20 people, up through large conventions of 10,000 or more. All types of functions including corporate events, weddings, private parties, conventions, fundraisers, dances, mitzvahs, etc. are available. For more information, visit musicasyoulikeit.com.
