MULTIMEDIA CONCERT SERIES  LAUNCHEs AT ST. JAMES BY-THE-SEA 

Multimedia concert series Project [BLANK] is launching in San Diego with a performance at 7:30 p.m., May 24 at St. James by-the-Sea: 743 Prospect St.

Next month the series will put on three performances of TRIADIC MEMORIES, a 1981 work by the late contemporary American composer Morton Feldman. 

The sanctuary of St. James by the Sea Episcopal Church in La Jolla will be transformed into a large-scale video and sound installation gallery space. Other performances will be held at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on May 24. Tickets start at $20 with discounts available for students and seniors.

TRAUMA AWARENESS EXPO HELD AT SCRIPPS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL 

The 6th annual Trauma Awareness Expo will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 18 at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, 9888 Genesee Ave.

Meet San Diego’s finest first responders, check out lifesaving equipment and explore rescue vehicles and helicopters at this free, fun, interactive and educational event. Other activities include tourniquet training, sidewalk CPR, injury prevention, drowning prevention, child car seat installation techniques and trauma trivia.

UPCOMING LA JOLLA COMMUNITY CENTER EVENTS

A half-day Svaroopa yoga program will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 25 and will include three hours of yoga poses plus an hour of chanting and meditation. Tickets are $91 prior to May 17, and $101 after May 17.

A Distinguished Speaker Series will be held at 6 p.m., May 23, and will feature Dr. Moira Fitzpatrick, PhD., M.D. She will be addressing insights that support women through the hormonal seasons of her life. The discussion will culminate in a ceremony honoring all women. Free. 

The Fourth Friday Jazz Series will feature alto saxophonist Christopher Hollyday at 7 p.m., May 24. He’ll be joined by two of San Diego’s sought after musicians: bassist Rob Thorsen and pianist Joshua White. Tickets can be pre-purchased for $18 or at the door for $25.

“Passione: An Opera Concert,” will be presented at 7 p.m., May 25 and will feature soprano Anna Belaya and baritone Gerardo de la Torre. Tickets are $40 per person.

Celebrate music and dance from Flamenco Sur with “A Night in Sevilla” at 6:30 p.m., June 7. Flamenco music, dancing and authentic tapas, paella and sangria. Reservations are required. Tickets are $25 for members, and $40 for non-members.

BNI LAUNCHING LA JOLLA CHAPTER

Business Network International will be launching a new La Jolla chapter, BNI Ranch and Coast, on May 14. The chapter will be led by Joy Bender of Compass who will act as president of BNI Ranch and Coast for 2019.

BNI chapters are found in every major city throughout the world and are usually structured with approximately 35 to 50 local professionals, one professional per business category. The purpose of BNI is to create business relationships and facilitate referrals. BNI chapters are all structured with weekly meetings and attendance requirements to help foster the right environment and time necessary to form strategic business partnerships. 

The BNI Ranch and Coast will meet each Tuesday at The Lot in La Jolla, 7611 Fay Ave. For more information, visit bnisd.com. 

OB LIBRARY CELEBRATES HOW-TO FESTIVAL 

The OB Library will host the How-to Festival from 1-3 p.m. May 18 at 4801 Santa Monica Ave. The festival will feature instructions on how to meditate, do DIY facials, read music, use a loom, and establish a garden. The event is free and open to the public. 

The Ocean Beach Seed Library will also host its Saving Heirloom Seeds event at 6 p.m. May 21 at 4801 Santa Monica Ave. Join Nathan Lou, executive director of the Mongol Tribe, through the history of heirloom seeds and their conservation. You will learn what heirloom seeds are, why they are important, where to find them and which ones are easy to save.
