Muirlands is ready to rock for students

Muirlands Middle School is tuning up for “Muirlands Rocks!” a school fundraising event befitting of a rock star on May 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. The fun-filled afternoon will be complete with carnival games, barbequed eats courtesy of the Dimich family, and live music from “Lightning Starts Fire.” “Muirlands Rocks is a fun event where students and their families can be involved in helping to raise funds for the local middle school,” said Laurie Pearl, Muirlands Rocks co-chair. “There is something for everyone — games, food, music and tarp surfing. It should be an exciting afternoon for all.” Hundreds of La Jollans joined in the festivities last year, and with residual budgetary constraints making fundraising more crucial than ever before, this year’s event is slated to be bigger and better than ever. “The need for such a serious fundraiser is as urgent as ever,” said Pearl. “The foundation has pledged the funds to keep our staffing and class size at current levels.” Business sponsors making this year’s event possible include Geppetto’s Toys, La Jolla Volleyball, La Jolla Pop Warner Football, Wells Academic Solutions, Stacey’Z Hair Salon, C & H Photo, La Jolla Karate and La Jolla LearningWorks. Tickets to the event are $15, which includes a dinner and two carnival booth tickets. Sponsorship opportunities are also available at www.give2-schools.org. For more information about the event, visit www.muirlandms.org or call (858) 459-7925.
