Mission Bay High School will be holding its Future Bucs Night on Friday, Sept. 23 with the aim of providing tips and resources to help middle school students throughout the county become successful students as potential incoming Buccaneers.
“It’s something we do for the local middle school kids to get them excited about going to Mission Bay High School,” said football head coach Greg Tate.
Among the highlights of the event will be the school’s music program and audition material to apply for advanced ensembles including the Mambo Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Choir, and Preservationists.
As for the Bucs, the team is off to a solid 4-0 start this season, which is even better than 2021 when they were 3-1 over the first four games. Mission Bay beat Sweetwater 34-14 on the road last week thanks to 330 passing yards and 50 rushing yards along with going 6-for-10 on third down conversions. The Bucs scored the first touchdown and never looked back as they dominated the Red Devils on both sides of the field.
“I feel that our team came out and executed our game plan,” Tate added. “Sweetwater was a physical team and definitely made us work for the win. I will say that I’d like to see better execution from our second team guys.”
Up next for Mission Bay is a trip south to face the Montgomery Aztecs on Friday, Sept. 16 with a chance to start the season 5-0 for the first time since the 2015 season when the team finished 10-3. “We’ll look to have a great game to build the excitement within the community,” said Tate.
The last time these two teams met, the Bucs came out with an impressive 34-14 home victory thanks largely to 117 rushing yards and the defense forcing two turnovers. The Aztecs are coming in on a three-game winning streak after losing their season opener against Coronado High.
