If you are Mission Bay High head football coach Willie Matson, you have to like where the football program is headed.
In his 11th season with the Bucs, Matson and his team are coming off a 10-3 campaign a season ago. Last season saw Mission Bay reach the CIF Division III Final, losing to Bonita Vista 34-14.
As for this season, Matson said there are 14 starters back from 2015, with 33 players out for varsity altogether.
“If our team stays healthy we are expecting a strong run at the Division III CIF title this year,” Matson noted.
According to Matson, Mission Bay’s entire offensive line returns, along with quarterback Jaiden Correa, who will be challenged by junior Trevor Scully. Schyler Ceniceros and Kenyon Sims will provide a strong running game. Keyon Holiday, Brent Jenkins, Chuck Hicks, and Wesley Danzy will be the targets at the wide receiver. “Defensively, our defensive line will be one of the best in the county, anchored by Kaydence Jackson, Jack Lashchuck, Naom Bass, and Eric Purma,” Matson commented.
According to Matson, Mission Bay will get strong competition from the likes of Morse, Scripps Ranch, Lincoln, and Christian. Home opener
