The Mission Bay girls soccer team (8-4-3) has gotten off to one of its best starts ever and looks to keep its high level of play going when it takes on Cathedral Catholic at home on Jan. 27. This will be the second time the two teams meet this season since Cathedral Catholic came out victorious 3-2 back on Jan. 11.
“Cathedral is always a tough game,” said Mission Bay head coach Jorge Palacios. “Both teams are having a good season and this will be another opportunity to keep improving.”
Cathedral Catholic enters the match with a 12-4-2 record and is undefeated in league play with one draw which came in its previous game at Coronado on Jan. 25.
“I expect a hard-fought game,” said Cathedral Catholic head coach Dawn Lee. “We squeaked it out in our first meeting, so I expect them to give us all that we can handle visiting their home field.”
Mission Bay comes in having won two of its last three thanks to a 1-0 victory over Christian High School on Jan. 18 followed up with a 2-0 win against El Centro on Jan. 23 before falling to Point Loma on Jan. 25 by a score of 2-1.
The Bucs started off the season winning three of their first four games and did not suffer a second loss until their first meeting versus Cathedral Catholic. Mission Bay is currently on a better pace than last year when it started the season with a 6-3-5 record after 14 matches.
After the game against Cathedral Catholic, the Bucs will have five more games remaining in the regular season three of which will also be rematches with all of them being at home except for the season finale against Point Loma on Feb. 10. Mission Bay has already equaled its win total for last season and looks to finish with its best record since 2019-2020 when the team ended up 17-1-3 overall going undefeated during the regular season before falling in the playoffs to Francis Parker.
