The Mission Bay Cluster of schools will host its first-ever Mission Bay Cluster All-Schools Fair on Saturday, Jan. 26 from noon to 3 p.m. at Mission Bay High School, located at 2475 Grand Ave., just west of the McEvoy Little League Field and the Mission Bay Golf Course. “This is a chance for parents and students to come and meet the principals, staff, coordinators and families from the six schools in the cluster and find out about all of the great programs the schools in Pacific Beach offer,” said Jennifer Tandy, Mission Bay Cluster president. Examples of some of the programs featured within the cluster are the international baccalaureate programs at Mission Bay High School, Pacific Beach Middle School and Kate Sessions Elementary, the GATE/Seminar program at Pacific Beach Elementary, the Suzuki violin program at Crown Point Junior Academy and the new Mandarin Chinese immersion program, which will be located at Bayview Terrace Elementary School, beginning in the fall of 2013. The Mission Bay Cluster is comprised of Kate Sessions Elementary, Pacific Beach Elementary, Crown Point Junior Music Academy, Barnard Mandarin Chinese Elementary, Mission Bay High School and Pacific Beach Middle School. Mission Bay is one of 16 clusters within the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), which, according to the SDUSD website, are pre-kindergarten through grade 12 community of schools with established feeder programs including staff, parents and community members. The Jan. 26 fair will feature a variety of activities for prospective students, including a “B-Ball Launch” with the MBHS Robotics Club competition robot “Sparky,” “Jeopardy Junior” hosted by the MBHS Academic League, “Math Fun” with PB Middle Schoolers, “Crazy Hair” and “Spin the Music Wheel.” The principals of each school will make a presentation, beginning at 1 p.m. with the elementary schools, followed by the secondary schools at 2 p.m. Woodstock’s Pizza, Jersey Mike’s and Jamba Juice will provide menu options at the event. For more information, contact MBHS principal Fred Hilgers at (858) 273-1313, ext. 285.
