The Facebook page for Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve & State Beach announced Sept. 25 that the metal staircase near Flat Rock that connects the beach to the reserve’s trails will be removed for needed maintenance Sept. 30.
According to the post, the process is expected to take four to six weeks. During that time. all the trails at the reserve will remain open, but they must be accessed from the trailheads within the Reserve. The beach will also remain open. Attendees just won’t be able to transition from one to the other.
“It’s been over 10 years of daily high tides and over a million annual trail users so the stairs will be removed for some preventative maintenance to replace worn/rusted sections and redo the heavy duty marine coating that’s kept it in good shape for so long,” the post reads.
