The Oct. 16 monthly Mesa Colony Community Group (MCCG) meeting was held at the College-Rolando Library. There was a good turnout of neighbors who heard a presentation by Feeding San Diego, which is a member of Feeding America. They are devoted to gathering excess food from groceries, restaurants, and farmers, and making it available to the 1 in 8 in San Diegans who are food deprived.

Updates were given by the College Area Business District, the head of the College Area Community Council (CACC), and a representative from District 9. Two candidates for the District 9 City Council seat introduced themselves at the meeting. There will be a candidate forum sponsored by the CACC held at a later date yet to be determined. You will find advance notice for it here in this column and elsewhere in the College Times Courier when scheduled. 

There was also a lively debate regarding the issue paying for trash pickup in the city. Currently homeowners do not, but what about vacation rentals, or other properties where the owner does not reside? The discussion will continue at the next MCCG meeting on Nov. 20.

We are looking at partnering volunteers with Harriett Tubman Village Charter School to help maintain the landscaping on the outside of the joint-use park, when completed. Those who are interested should make themselves known.
