Kenneth McFarland is the new chief executive officer at Alvarado Hospital Medical Center in San Diego.
McFarland started at Alvarado on April 18, 2022, and joins the hospital and Prime Healthcare with 24 years of healthcare leadership experience. He has taken this leadership role after the departure of former hospital CEO Robin Gomez.
From 2016 to 2021, he served as CEO of 400-bed Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center (a member of Tenet Health) in Orange County.
Earlier in his career, he held various senior leadership roles with Mission Hospital, a 552-bed hospital, and a member of Providence/ St. Joseph Health System, in South Orange County, CA. While there, he served as president and CEO for five years, and also held COO and CFO responsibilities since 1998.
McFarland began his career with Ernst & Young, Los Angeles. For seven years, McFarland performed audit and consulting services for their L.A., Honolulu & Orange County Offices. Thereafter, he worked seven years at PepsiCo, Inc, Purchase, N.Y., holding a variety of strategy and finance roles.

He holds a master of business administration with a specialization in finance and economics from the University of California, Irvine and a bachelor of science in accounting and finance from California Polytechnic University in Pomona.
