Six-foot-seven-inch Mission Bay High Buccaneer forward C.J. Rayford, a senior, collected four rebounds and converted a free throw from the charity stripe, but it wasn’t quite enough as the South boys suffered a tough 103-100 loss to the North in the San Diego County High School Basketball All-Star Game played at Horizon High School on April 22. Rayford said it was an honor to be chosen to participate in this contest when one considers all of the great high school basketball players in the San Diego Section. “It’s definitely a big deal to be picked to play in this game,” said Rayford. “It was fun going out there and trying to win. Unfortunately, we lost. But it’s been an honor to compete with players of this caliber. It’s a good way to be able to close out my high school career.” Rayford said he’s still undecided as to where he will be attending college in the fall. “I have Eastern Washington, Southern Texas and Lewis & Clark all still looking at me,” he said. “I’ll probably be making my decision at the end of the month.”
