As a parent of a Mission Bay High 2014 graduating senior, I am looking for help with our situation.  We may be too late to the game on this one, but I have to try everything.
I know that several Mission Bay High parents may have exhausted every resource in trying to find a location for the 2014 graduation other than a rival high school. Any place large enough to accommodate such an event, like San Diego State University or the University of San Diego is booked.  Other venues want $8,000 to $10,000 to rent the location, chairs, etc.
Our kids and parents have supported the public schools in Pacific Beach for 12 years. We have a great graduating class of smart, hard-working kids. High school graduation is one of the biggest milestones in their lives that they will remember forever. This year, Mission Bay High seniors will have to hold their commencement ceremony at a rival high school in Clairemont.
We lobbied and waited for years to get a new and modern sports complex at Mission Bay. Things were delayed due to funds getting reallocated to the new library downtown. Just recently, they finally broke ground at Mission Bay for the new sports complex. This is great news, unless you’re a graduating senior. Not only did they not get to use the new sports complex while at MBHS, but now they have no location for graduation.
If there is the will, there is a way, right? Everyone has vast social and professional networks these days. There has to be a benefactor or a company with access to a location or money to help. I am hoping that there might be something that was overlooked. Does anyone have suggestions?
