Mary Ann (Kamfonik) Deitz, 69, longtime Pt. Loma, OB resident

Mary Ann Deitz joined her beloved husband, Dick, over the rainbow on May 28, 2007, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
She died in her home surrounded by her children.
Born in Long Beach, Mary Ann moved to the Point Loma area in 1949 and remained there for the rest of her life.
She graduated from Point Loma High School in 1955. Mary Ann married her high school sweetheart, Dick Deitz, in 1956.
They settled in Ocean Beach to raise their children and start Dietz Concrete Co., which is still in business today, run by their sons Rick and Randy.
Mary Ann and Dick were avid Pointers fans. Their children and grandchildren also attended Point Loma High. Mary Ann and Dick were also fans of the Dons, where their oldest grandson played sports at University High School.
Mary Ann loved to socialize and travel with family and friends. Among her favorite pastimes was fishing in Canada with Dick. They also were able to enjoy trips to Australia, Midway Island, Panama, Mexico and Europe and numerous cruises.
Mary Ann, along with Dick, was a member of the San Diego Marlin Club. They were also involved with the Peninsula Lions Club, where she helped organize charity events.
Mary Ann loved to take her mother-in-law, Rosemary Prevost, and grandson Trevor Deitz to Margarita’s in Ocean Beach for coffee each morning, where she would meet with countless friends.
Mary Ann devoted her life to caring for others, as she was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Parish Women’s Altar Society, which helped with issues in the Ocean Beach community.
She always helped with planning picnics and outings with the Ocean Beach Little League, where her children played in the ’60s and ’70s.
She is survived by her loving children, Richard (Michelle) Deitz, Susan Billecci and Randall (Georgia) Deitz of San Diego and Sandra (Michael) Hughes of Kentucky; her beloved grandchildren, Brian, Julie, Sara, Trevor, Kyle, Brandon and Curtis; her new great-grandson Bradley; mother-in-law Rosemary Prevost; and brother Frank (Nancy) Kamfonik.
The family wishes to thank Mary Ann’s wonderful friends for their care and support during her illness. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
