Man ordered to pay fines for ramming parking enforcement scooter in La Jolla

A driver who has finished his 90-day jail term for ramming a parking enforcement officer’s scooter in La Jolla has been ordered to pay $1,856 in damages to the owner of a parked car that the officer crashed into.
Peter Alex Dreier, 42, of Hillcrest, remains on terms of three years probation with an order to perform 10 days of public service works.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Maureen Hallahan also allowed Dreier permission to use medical marijuana as a pain reliever and muscle relaxant for a physical ailment, according to court records. Dreier and his attorney appeared Nov. 7 before Hallahan to seek permission, as the probation department would not OK it without a ruling from a judge.
Dreier’s physician wrote a letter asking the judge to allow him to use medical marijuana. In a letter to the judge, Dreier said he was not allowed to use the drug while he was in a work furlough project. Dreier is an architect and was allowed to serve the 90-day sentence in a work furlough facility where he was locked up at nights and on weekends.
The April 19 incident occurred at 12:06 p.m. in the 800 block of Prospect Street in La Jolla when Dreier was angry he received a parking ticket when he parked in a commercial loading zone.  He threw the $57.50 ticket at the parking enforcement officer and then rammed the scooter, causing it to overturn and hit a parked Honda.
Dreier apologized to the officer at his July 28 sentencing in which a judge granted a restraining order that banned Dreier having any further contact with the officer, who was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital with minor injuries. Dreier pleaded guilty to felony assault and has no prior record.
