MADCAPS to hold annual benefit show 'On Broadway' March 9-11

Mothers and Daughters Club Assisting Philanthropies (MADCAPS) celebrates 57 years of community service with its annual benefit show Thursday, March 9 through Saturday, March 11, in Point Loma Nazarene University’s Brown Chapel Theater. The theme for this year is “On Broadway,” featuring Broadway hit shows such as “Grease,” “Chicago,” “Saturday Night Fever,” “School of Rock,” “Mama Mia,” “Wicked,” and “Newsies.” Tickets for this year’s show are on sale with prices ranging between $5 and $25. Tickets can be purchased at www.sdmadcaps.org.
“MADCAPS is thrilled to present this year’s theme ‘On Broadway,’ said Judy Parker, 2017 benefit communications chair. “We’re performing a variety of Broadway hit shows in a sensational, show-stopping format, as well as highlighting our real ‘stars,’ the philanthropies that we work with.” In addition, the group is supporting San Diego First Church of the Nazarene’s “Homeless Kits” project, by collecting various personal care items. Patrons are asked to bring items like new tube socks, small shampoos, soaps and lip balms, which will be distributed to those in need. All of this would not be possible without the support of sponsors from the community. “We sincerely thank The Irving Group, Ullman Sails, Bass Family, Ocean Dental, San Diego Funding/Pacific Sotheby’s, and Smith Family,” Parker said. This annual musical extravaganza has become MADCAPS signature fundraising event to provide financial support to dozens of local charities. The underwriting of major production costs, proceeds from ticket and advertising sales, and the donated time and expertise of the girls, their families and friends make it possible to give to these community organizations. “Please support us and/or donate to MADCAPS at sdmadcaps.org,” Parker said. “We are very excited to return to the campus of Point Loma Nazarene University and the additional capacity and comfort of the theater at Brown Chapel.”
state of the art audio and visual technology, and ease and accessibility of parking will again make this year’s show a fantastic experience for all who attend. Mothers and Daughters Club Assisting Philanthropies (MADCAPS) was formed in 1960. The purpose of MADCAPS, as a private, nonprofit organization, is to involve mothers and daughters in direct service to and support of established philanthropic organizations. To further this purpose, mothers will actively nurture the training of their daughters in philanthropic commitments, teaching personal responsibility, as well as responsibility to the needs of others, so that all members may fully realize the benefits of involvement in the community. The group consists of approximately 180 mothers and their 7th-12th grade daughters from the Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Mission Hills and Hillcrest areas. In addition to the thousands of hours of community service served by the girls each year, MADCAPS presents a high-energy music and dance benefit show annually to raise additional funds for these local charities. Since its inception in 1960, MADCAPS has raised more than $900,000 for the community and contributed tens of thousands of hours volunteering for philanthropic organizations. Organizations that have benefited from MADCAPS philanthropy include Father Joe’s Villages, YMCA Becky’s House, UCSD Bannister House, Rady Children’s Hospital, Autism Tree Project Foundation, San Diego Adaptive Sports & Foundation, San Diego Humane Society, Senior Olympics, Elder Help, Bayside Community Center, Habitat for Humanity, and San Diego River Park Foundation. MADCAPS also volunteer their time at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. For more information about MADCAPS please visit www.sdmadcaps.org.
