MADCAPS prepping annual gala show

MADCAPS (Mothers and Daughters Club Assisting Philanthropies) will perform “We Can Do It!,” the 48th annual fundraiser show in Point Loma, on March 6, 7 and 8. The show will emphasize the dedication and effort of the MADCAPS girls and the personal growth they’ve experienced through the organization, said organizers.
MADCAPS is a philanthropic group designed to bring mothers and daughters together and to give back to the community. With roots extending to 1960, 150 7th- through 12th-grade girls and mothers from Point Loma and Mission Hills make a six-year commitment to volunteer and fundraise through MADCAPS. Held at Correia Junior High School, the show will be performed, directed and produced by MADCAPS members. This year’s theme is based on the World War II-era image of Rosie the Riveter. The benefit show is expected to raise around $40,000 for several charities, including the philanthropies that each class supports such as Habitat for Humanity for the class of 2008 and Children’s Hospital for the class of 2013.
Before the Saturday matinee at 1:30 p.m. there will be a special mural dedication ceremony to recognize the partnership that has existed for years between Correia Junior High School and MADCAPS.
“The new mural depicts the nearby Famosa Slough and is also representative of the successful community partnership which we have built between our philanthropic MADCAPS organization and our local public middle school,” said Alisa Barba, head of MADCAPS publicity.
The school’s principal, Linda Taggart, commissioned the mural using funding received by MADCAPS, along with funding granted by the Correia Association.
Show sponsors include OMG! Cosmetics, Rosmaria Acuna, Cavignac & Associates Insurance Brokers, the Reno family, Willis Allen Real Estate, Cabrillo Pet Hospital and Gary L. Rose, DVM.
The show video is sponsored by Dr. Frank Pavel and the Center for Oral and Facial Surgery, while the flower cart is sponsored by Rudy Medina Investments and Development.
Willis Allen Realtor Beth Zedaker said, “We support MADCAPS because we also believe in giving back to our community and are happy to support an organization that works so hard to raise funds for various philanthropic organizations.”
There will be four performances at Correia Junior High School. The premiere dress rehearsal will take place Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m., Friday, March 7 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, March 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Tickets range from $5 for Thursday’s show to $10 to $20 for reserved seating by visiting www.showboxoffice.com.
