Love rules at Creative Souls on the West Coast art show at Wonderland in Ocean Beach

Blunt But Sweet Marketing will present the first Creative Souls on the West Coast art show from 7 to 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 5 at Wonderland Ocean Pub, 5083 Santa Monica Ave. The planned series of art shows will feature local artists and vendors through a collaboration with local venues in Ocean Beach as well as Pacific and Mission beaches. The events are aimed at creating exposure and creative networking opportunities for the vendors and artists, while showcasing local venues.
“We pair local bands, artists, photographers and fashion designers with the appropriate venues and vendors to be marketed as a packaged event,” said Elizabeth Rori, founder of Blunt But Sweet Marketing. The three local artists who will be featured at the April 5 show are Autumn Love, Collin Worrel, and Thomas Condry. Love will display her latest paintings and mugs, which feature prints of her paintings, plus a personalized touch on the mug’s bottom and a decorated box. “The mugs are a practical use of my prints with my personal touch of love,” she said. “They are a passion project. I call them love in a box.”
Worrel is a photographer who makes custom-made frames from recyclable materials. “I take used fences and turn them into frames – into pieces of art,” he said. “That’s my story.” Condry is an illustrator and skateboard deck designer. “I do what I do to have fun. And I want other people to have fun,” he said. “I think life, and all that stuff, can take us away from a good time. If I can give someone at least one good time, or just a moment, that feels good. Then I’m happy.”
Nine weeks ago, the idea to showcase local artists at local venues popped into Rori’s head. “I was lying in bed one evening unable to get the rest I needed. I spent about three hours coming up with the concept and tada! Creative Souls on the West Coast was born.” The response has been positive. San Diego locals, artists, venues, vendors loved the concept. It grew from from maybe three experiences a year to almost seven events scheduled between April and July. “We are now working along Karl Strauss for three major San Diego events in May, June, and July,” she said. “I envision Creative Souls on the West Coast to be an ongoing brand in Southern California.”
Love, a Pacific Beach resident known for her paintings with messages of love, likes that the show will be an eclectic mix of artists. “My paintings are full of love and colorful while the guys’ are more raw with recycled material. It should be fun.” “The amount of incredible people I’ve met through this process is mind blowing,” Rori said. “These artists have trusted us with their dedication, skills and talents. I imagine this experience will be one not long forgotten.”
