The author talks at San Carlos Library have finally returned after a two-year lapse due to the pandemic.

“We have all experienced difficulties these past few years so it is nice to bring back our in-person programming. Our Author Talks bring community members together to listen and engage in literature,” said Branch Librarian David Ege.

Local reporter and photographer Cynthia G. Robertson, author of Where You See Forever will be the first author at the free monthly event. Scheduled for Friday, June 24 from 2 to 3 p.m., Robertson’s talk, “A Discussion on How a Book Is Born” will include tips on how to plan the plot line, sit down and write the book, and handle the surprises that happen within the writing process.

At the event, Robertson will do an interview-style Q & A as well as take questions from the attendees. In addition, she will give some tips on how to include autobiographical elements in a novel. Copies of her novel will be available for sale at the discussion.

“I’m very excited and grateful that I have been given the opportunity for this,” Robertson said.

As a reporter, Robertson has specialized in writing articles about the people and places of San Diego and how they have helped make San Diego the beloved city that it is. Her novel mentions some of these places as well as a walking group, in real life called Walkabout, International. Participating in that group helped give structure to Robertson’s life as well as provide inspiration for scenes in her novel.

Robertson’s writing life began in her teens, with teachers encouraging her to publish essays and stories she wrote in class. During her college years, she took classes in creative writing at the University of San Diego, and then she discovered the joys of reporting at Mesa Community College. From then on, she immersed herself in journalism, mastering the art of the interview.

Currently, Robertson is working on putting together two nonfiction books, including a collection of essays from her blog about observations in nature and the spiritual lessons she has learned from them. Find out more at: cynthiarobertson.com.
