LA JOLLA — For the first year, downtown La Jolla will have a “pit stop” as part of Bike To Work Day 2011. Ironstone Bank La Jolla and the Nigel Mallett Insurance Agency, will host Bike To Work Day on Friday, May 20, in the bank’s parking lot at 835 Pearl St. Bike To Work Day is sponsored each year by The San Diego Association of Governments to support cycling as a viable environmentally friendly commute choice. The event is also celebrated in various cities nationwide. Bike To Work Day will have 75 sponsored pit stops in San Diego this year. From 6 to 9 a.m. bikers can stop by Ironstone Bank for free T-shirts, water, snacks and encouragement. Sponsors say they are expecting a large turnout.
