The La Jolla Youth Soccer League (LJYSL) is holding its second annual summer camp to assist youngsters in becoming better soccer players.
Headed by director Rick Flores, the camp runs well into August. Most of the participants are from the La Jolla area along with some from outer locales.
“I have one coach for every eight players and we also bring on some teenagers to assist in taking players to bathroom breaks and for administrative items,” Flores said. “The goal of the camp is fun and for players to enjoy the game without pushing them too hard. We have them work on skills, followed by playing games where they apply themselves on what they were working on. We want to be sure by the end of the week that campers tell parents and friends that they enjoyed themselves and would recommend and return next year.”
The camp, which gets going on June 25 and ends on Aug. 24, is held at several locales, including The Children’s School, Cliffridge Park and Allen Field. The camp is for ages 5 to 14.
There are still openings for all weeks of camp, but Flores notes that it is a good idea to sign up and pay the required fee to be sure to secure a spot and to have enough staff coaches. The payment of $140 needs to be made three weeks prior to camp. All participants will receive a camp shirt and ball.
