This year’s “Viking Vines and Vintners,” an evening of wine tasting, silent auctions and socializing, will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the La Jolla Country Club to raise much-needed money for the Foundation of La Jolla High School.
After generating more than $40,000 in 2006, the event was deemed an integral part of the foundation’s fund-raising routine. Proceeds will be earmarked for athletic and academic budget shortfalls at La Jolla High School, according to Todd Bloom, the foundation’s fund-raising chairman.
“I think people automatically assume that because we are in La Jolla that the school has a lot of money, but that’s not the case,” Bloom said. “Last year we needed to raise at least $350,000 because of the budget cutbacks. All the money is used and there is a constant need for capital projects at the high school.”
More than 300 guests attended last year’s Vines and Vintners, and Bloom expects the country club will hit its 400-person maximum capacity this Saturday.
Corporate contributors such as Jonathan’s Market, Charles Krug Winery, Southern Wine and Spirits, The French Gourmet and Contemporary Catering have donated food and gift items for the event.
Several La Jolla families provided donations that will help with corkage fees and decorations.
The La Jolla Country Club, 7301 High St., will cater the event and guests will be able to sample domestic and foreign vintage wines, with a commemorative engraved glass to keep.
Tickets are $55 per person and availability is limited. For more information, or to purchase tickets, contact the foundation, (858) 551-1250. The La Jolla High School Foundation is a nonprofit group of alumni, volunteers and parents dedicated to raising money for the school’s athletic, academic and campus facility projects.
