LJ/Monaco meet on the catwalk for fashion fete

Fashion for the Cure held a dinner and fashion show Sept. 15 at the Estancia Hotel & Spa. The theme for the evening was “Pretty in Pink,” with the proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The guests arrived all decked out in various shades of pink, including pink shirts and ties for the men.
Dianne York-Goldman was the chair for the evening. She is CEO of DYG Mineral Makeup and La Jolla Spa MD, which was voted “Top Medical Spa in America” by American Spa Magazine. York-Goldman wanted to do something special for her sister, Sharon Peters, who is battling breast cancer. It is York-Goldman’s hope that Fashion For the Cure will raise money and increase awareness for this important issue.
The honorary committee comprised Sally Thornton, Valerie Cooper, Phyllis Parrish and Doreen Schonbrun.
The evening began with a stylish VIP cocktail hour, a wonderful silent auction and a delicious dinner. News 8’s Barbara Lee Edwards was mistress of ceremonies.
The fashion show featured international designer Isabell Kristensen’s Couture Collection. The first segment began with Kristensen’s “Dreams Collection.” The runway was sizzling with her hot lingerie and swimwear designs. The second segment was Kristensen’s glamorous haute couture collection. One knockout creation after another came down the runway, leaving the audience spellbound.
This Danish-born designer has created clothing for many celebrities, such as Victoria Beckham, Ivana Trump and Nicole Kidman. Currently she has one boutique in Monaco, where she resides, and one in London. Her tagline is “Too Much is Never Enough.” Recently she has added home goods, shoe wear and perfume to her list of talents.
A special trunk show was held the following day at La Jolla Spa MD, during which guests had a chance to view and to purchase these beautiful designs.
One of the highlights of the evening was the signing of the La Jolla Monaco Cultural Exchange Foundation Charter. The foundation’s goal is “Sharing Ocean Knowledge and Promotion of Fashion & Art.” York-Goldman, who is the founding president, and Kristensen, the founding vice-president, signed the charter in front of all the guests. Everyone was excited about this La Jolla Monaco Exchange, which also supports Prince Albert II of Monaco’s Foundation to sustain and manage natural resources. This delightful evening reflected the foundation’s goal to promote fashion and art. In the future, Prince Albert will be taking the charter to New York.
All the proceeds for this event benefited Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. The San Diego branch was started in 1995 and locally helps breast cancer diagnostics, treatment, education, screening and patient support.
