LIVE MUSIC: Latin flavor, Pink Floyd mania and Studio 8 quartet

Latin music fans will enjoy hearing guitarist Carlos Velasco, who performs at Café-Bar Europa, every Monday. Adept at classical, flamenco, jazz and tango, he also features Brazilian, as well as Peruvian music in his set. This includes a trip across South America, without ever leaving Pacific Beach. Velasco has released several albums, but this is vibrant joyful music meant to be experienced live and the perfect soundtrack to an evening out at the Turquoise. • Carlos Velasco performs at 5 p.m. on Mondays at Café-Bar Europa, 873 Turqouise St. 21 and up. No cover. www.theturquoise.com/wordpress Rock fans without tickets to see Roger Waters on May 13 at the Valley View Casino Center still have an option to hear Pink Floyd music that night when Brick by Brick hosts a free concert and film screening. On hand will be Adam Jones and GoGo Boom Boom, with a DJ set from PF Lunatik. But the draw will be the opening showing of Pink Floyd’s “Live at Pompeii.” Capturing the band during 1971 and 1972, with 1973 footage inserted from their classic disc “Dark Side of the Moon,” this time capsule captures the band in its prime. Best of all, where tickets for Waters concert that night can run in excess of $200, this event is free. • Live at Pompeii: Sunday, May 13, at Brick by Brick, 1130 Buenos Ave. 8 p.m. 21 and up. No cover. www.brickbybrick.com Tio Leo’s continues to be one of the best places in town to hear danceable rock music, like the Lomatones, who perform May 18. It’s no easy task keeping a venues dance floor packed, but the Lomatones have all the ingredients to do so with a well-paced, energetic set list designed to keep toes tapping. Notably, the group covers a lot of ground, with an eclectic set list that includes more than 100 songs, ranging from Chuck Berry to Bob Marley to the Romantics, offering up something for just about everyone. • The Lomatones perform at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 18 at Tio Leo’s, 5302 Napa St. 21 and up. Cover TBD. www.tioleos.com  Classic rock fans won’t want to miss Studio 8, performing on May 19 at the 710 Beach Club. However, modern pop fans will also find plenty to like about the quartet, which features singer Joanna Fluribus. The key is a changing repertoire, that includes evergreens like Journey’s “Separate Ways” as well as current material like Adele’s “Rolling in The Deep.” Best of all, the group has the chops, both musically and vocally, to pull off the tunes. Anyone looking for a little dance floor action set to familiar favorite tunes will enjoy Studio 8’s set. • Studio 8 performs at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 at the 710 Beach Club, 710 Garnet Ave. 21 and up. Cover TBD. www.710bc.com He’s played with John Stewart, The Speedsters and the Beat Farmers, but today, Joey Harris can be found playing with his group, the Mentals. Performing music that’s somewhere between Americana and rock ’n’ roll, Harris and his group appear at the Tiki House on May 19. You can count on Harris to include some of his best-known tunes, like “The Girl I Almost Married,” in the set, but no matter what he comes up with, you it’s always played with passion and a sense of fun. It’s been more than three decades since Harris made his professional debut locally; he remains a local legend and a national treasure. • Joey Harris & The Mentals perform at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 19 at The Tiki House, 1152 Garnet Ave. Cover TBD. 21 and up. www.tikipb.com
