Fans of Latin sounds won’t want to miss an appearance from the Bi-National Mambo Orchestra at Dizzy’s on June 27. Taking in everything from the mambo to the cha cha and meringue, the 20-piece band is an explosion of rhythm. Still led by founder and trumpeter Bill Caballero, this performance is technically a concert, but the group’s inspired performance should be able to get the audience off its feet and dancing within the first few bars. The band has issued one album to date, the excellent “Standards,” but live, where you can experience the musicians interact is the best way to experience Caballero and his Orchestra. • THE BI-NATIONAL MAMBO ORCHESTRA: Friday, June 27, at DIZZY’S, 4275 Mission Bay Drive. 8 p.m. $15. www.dizzysjazz.com. Root rock aficionados won’t want to miss an appearance from the Dave Gleason Trio at Beaumont’s on June 27. The acclaimed guitarist plays a heady mix of classic old school country with splashes of rockabilly fretwork that’s sure to please even the most jaded Americana fan. • THE DAVE GLEASON TRIO: June 27 at BEAUMONT’S, 5662 La Jolla Blvd. 9 p.m. 21 and up. www.beaumontseatery.com. Blessed with a fiery voice and commanding stage presence, Michele Lundeen is a musical force to be reckoned with. Appearing at Tio Leo’s on July 1, Lundeen’s vocals place her alongside the likes of Tina Turner and Etta James when it comes to emotion filled singing. She’s only recorded one album to date, but it’s just as well. As anyone who has caught her act can attest, her music is basically the blues with a touch of soul, gritty roadhouse style — whether you dance or listen, Lundeen and her band will move you.
• MICHELE LUNDEEN: Tuesday, July 1 at TIO LEO’S, 5302 Napa Street. 9 p.m. 21 and up. Cover TBD. www.tioleos.com. There are plenty of places to hear live music this Fourth of July, but nothing beats the Kona Kai Resort’s pool party, with Point Loma’s own Fish & The Seaweeds providing the tunes to go along with the fireworks on the bay. Led by guitarist Mark Fisher, Fish & The Seaweeds excel at classic rock with a repertoire that includes the likes of Santana, The Beatles and Neil Young, in other words, the perfect soundtrack for a Friday evening party. The Kona Kai recently went through a remodel, so if you haven’t been to the hotel recently, this free event is the perfect excuse. • FISH & THE SEAWEEDS: Friday, July 4, at the KONA KAI RESORT, 1551 Shelter Island Dr., Shelter Island. 5:30 p.m. No Cover. www.resortkonakai.com Roots and reggae aficionados won’t want to miss an excellent triple bill at the 710 Beach Club on July 5. On hand will be a Sunny Rude, City Reef and Special Blend. Sunny Rude in particular has made a splash in San Diego over the past four years, perennial favorites in a crowded scene with a sophomore release on the way. If you are a fan of island sounds this show right at the foot of the pacific ocean is the setting for a great Saturday night.
• SUNNY RUDE: Sunday, March 24, at the 710 BEACH?CLUB, 710 Garnet Ave. 9 p.m. 21 and up. www.710bc.com.
