Little Olympians will team up with the San Diego Chargers this summer to raise money and awareness for local children with disabilities. Three of the team’s football stars will join the second annual Ocean Beach Kid’s Olympics, sponsored by Century 21 Advantage, at the Ocean Beach Elementary School’s field on Friday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The first event kicks off with fun and games, including a basketball toss, football toss, soccer goal, obstacle course, long jump, and a 50-yard dash. Prizes will be awarded to winners of each age and gender group. The event is open to all kids ages 5 to 12, and participation is free.
“It’s an incredibly fun event and it gets lots of children involved in outdoor activities and sports, ” said Marianne Tomich from Easter Seals. “It’s amazing to see them compete because the children are really good.”
In 2005, 100 kids from the community attended. This year, Easter Seals and Century 21 Advantage hope to have at least 200 kids participate in the games.
To register, parents can bring their kids to Century 21 Advantage at 4969 Santa Monica Ave. As part of the registration process, each child will receive a fundraising packet for collecting pledges and donations.
“Children are encouraged to go out and raise as much money as they can prior to the event to benefit the children of Easter Seals,” added Tomich.
There are two ways to support this event: sponsor a child by donating to their fundraising efforts or become an Independence, Equality or Dignity sponsor. All proceeds from the event will benefit children with disabilities through Easter Seals Southern California.
