Leucadia Pizzeria opens take-out place in Point Loma

Leucadia Pizzeria has opened its first delivery and take-out-only eatery at 4161 Voltaire Street. Celebrating its sixth San Diego County location, this exclusive outpost will offer Leucadia Pizzeria’s legendary signature pizzas, salads, entrees, sandwiches and desserts for lunch, dinner and off-site catering. Owner – and recipe chef – Charles Conover, affectionately known as Chip, is thrilled to have expanded to Point Loma, an area he describes as a “good community for delivery.” As a seasoned veteran in the food industry, Conover is confident that the community will welcome his assorted and delicious menu. The atypical Italian menu touts 15 specialty pizzas including lobster, Hawaiian, ricotta, spinach eggplant and of course, vegetarian. Rosemary potato chicken, Thai chicken, and Chicken Marsala, Lobster mac ‘n cheese, buffalo wings, calzones and calamari sidle a lengthy list of appetizers, a variety of salads and vegetable sides, dozens of pastas and entrees, specialty sub sandwiches, and desserts. Favorites also include of fried eggplant and mushrooms, “drizzling in mozzarella” and a pear gorgonzola – crisp pears topped with candied walnuts, caramelized onions, dates, bleu cheese crumbles and mozzarella baked with fresh arugula. This eclectic and incredibly scrumptious lunch and dinner menu offers the perfect alternative to an expensive dinner out.
Admitting that the secret to his success is “lots of hard work, time and effort,” Conover is ready to share the foods he loves the most with the Peninsula. “I love my pizza,” he said. “And yes, I eat a lot of it.” Conover’s secret pizza recipe is based on years of blending “what I liked with what I learned on the East Coast and expanding it to California’s pizza style.” Almost 40 years ago, Conover opened up his first sandwich shop on Highway 101 in Leucadia. The New Jersey transplant established what became a hugely popular eatery because, “my friends owned a pizzeria on the East Coast and it looked like a good business.” The original hotspot was all of 300-square feet. Happy taste buds blossomed Leucadia Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant to its present-day status as “one of the largest and most efficient delivery operations in San Diego that offers a quick and friendly delivery of its entire menu.” “Delivery became a natural fit and today serves as 60 percent of my business,” he said. Conover is excited to “round-out” Leucadia Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant in Point Loma. “We serve more than just great pizza,” he concluded. “Leucadia Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant serves great food.”
