Thanks for the past 20 years
We at Bullfrogs would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our many loyal friends and customers who supported us for the past 20 years. Although not an easy decision to close, especially since 2006 was our best sales year ever, it was time to retire and move on.
I also want to thank my staff for all their years of dedication, which made operating Bullfrogs a memorable experience, and I wish Mr. Gallagher all the best in his new venture at the location.

An ocean of thanks
Great article on the Cabrillo gray whale migration festival in the Jan. 25 edition of The Peninsula Beacon (“Cabrillo to celebrate gray whale migration and tide pools,” page 3). I know the article motivated folks to attend the festival.
I was pleased to read that you mentioned Serge Dedina and his organization WildCoast. Dedina was a great inspiration to the launch of our “homegrown” product Whale Tails Tortilla Chips. Dedina, along with Chris Pesenti of Pro Peninsula, is a driving force for the preservation of our California coastal marine environment. With the support of Serge and Chris and local retailers like Olive Tree Market, People’s Organic Foods Market, Whole Foods Markets, Jimbo’s markets, Hornblower whale-watching cruises and Birch Aquarium, Whale Tails Tortilla Chips donated a portion of our proceeds to help with the water quality surveys in Magdalena Bay “” the birthplace of the California grays mentioned in the article.
Thanks again for making the public aware of this worthwhile event.

Attorney general doesn’t get beach alcohol issues
How nice that our former attorney general, Bill Lockyer, can thank us for making California a safer state during his tenure (Peninsula Beacon, Jan. 18).
I guess he’s never visited the beach communities or doesn’t read the papers.
We continue to have the highest number of DUI arrests in the city along with the usual assortment of other alcohol-related crimes, such as drunk in public, vandalism, public urination, et cetera.
It’s too bad Lockyer didn’t make the connection between our alcohol woes and the cause of the problem: an irresponsible Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), which is supposed to control the issuance of licenses (it is after all, part of its name), allied to the indifferent City Council, which continues to condone the number of bars, cantinas and package stores, which are now over 10 times the number prescribed by law, or the equally indifferent city attorney who once promised to oppose all new license application.
I’m pleased that Lockyer thanked us for giving him the opportunity to make California a safer state, but I prefer we thanked him for making our community a safer place to live.
Perhaps newly elected Jerry Brown can do a better job. He could hardly do worse.
Al Strohlein, Pacific Beach
