Objection to calling meeting ‘secret’
I strongly object to Cynthia Conger’s characterization of the Dec. 7 town hall meeting regarding the fuel plume and its remediation hosted by District 2 Councilman Kevin Faulconer and Capt. Mark Patton as “secret” in her letter to the editor last week (The Peninsula Beacon, Jan. 4). Had she attended the two weekly meetings of the Point Loma/Ocean Beach Realty Association (of which she is a member), prior to the town hall meeting, she would have heard an announcement about the gathering. The notice of the meeting was announced in many other formats as well. I personally e-mailed notice to many and regret that Cynthia did not receive it from me.
The information presented at the meeting is available to be viewed at www.epointloma.com. In addition, Patton has agreed to do a special presentation to the Peninsula Community Planning Board at its Jan. 18 meeting. He is scheduled to speak at 7:30 p.m. and the public is urged to attend. The PCPB meets at the Point Loma library, 3701 Voltaire St.
I want to personally applaud and thank Patton for his outreach to the community on this issue and others that affect Point Loma. The Navy has a huge impact on the quality of life on the peninsula and Patton works hard to ensure that they are a good neighbor. Come out to the PCPB meeting Thursday, Jan. 18 and meet him.
