Several local scholastic lacrosse teams picked up wins in recent play.At The Bishop’s School, the Lady Knights entered action this week with a record of 9-7 (4-1 Coastal League) for head coach Meghan Carr. According to Carr, key players to date have included Riley Sexton (leading scorer) and Susanah Hoehn, who have been key in the midfield making quick transitions and forcing turnovers from the other team. Daryl Griglak is one of the team’s leaders in the attack with assists.”Newcomer to the game, sophomore Jacqueline Rhodes, is consistently blocking shots and passes down on defense,” Carr noted. “Defender Chelsea Allen plays the game with great intensity and quickness as she is constantly taking on defense and coming through with ground balls.” Carr noted that this week was very important to set the tone for a playoff run.”As a team we need to be mentally and physically prepared for each game,” she said. “We have the ability, the drive and the intensity to do well this week.”On the boys side, Bishop’s came into action this week with a record of 7-8 for head coach Steve Sepeta.Key players to date have included Will Geier (midfield), Scott Bollert (defense), Dillon DuPont and Conner Thomas (attack), and Tighe Thomas (midfield).”This has been a good lacrosse season but injuries are beginning to get the best of us,” Sepeta said. “We really need some of our young guys to step up in order to continue our success.”At La Jolla Country Day School, the Lady Torreys in their first year are building towards the future for head coach Leslie Hunt.Although their record is 0-9 entering action this week, the Lady Torreys have received some key minutes this season from Claire Eliasberg, Alyssa Newman and Caitlin Bonacci.”It has been a learning season,” Hunt commented. “With three girls on the team who have never even picked up a stick or seen the game, we are truly building from the ground up. All but three of our games this season have been competitive and we show a lot of promise. Now that the girls have learned the technical aspects of the game, our biggest challenge for next season is learning how to win. ” Editor’s note: La Jolla Country Day School boys and La Jolla High did not return a request for information. n
