The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently lauded Pfizer La Jolla Laboratories, 10578 Science Center Drive, for its environmental leadership at the government agency’s eighth annual Environmental Ceremony.
“Pfizer wants to be recognized as a local and corporate leader in environmental stewardship, so this award is very important to the Pfizer La Jolla site and to Pfizer Inc.,” said Dan Shiel, director of environmental, safety and health for the La Jolla labs. “Pfizer recognizes that we have an obligation to demonstrate this leadership and ideally to help other companies make similar achievements. We are also proud to be partnering with the regulatory agencies in order to foster proactive relationships between government and industry ” this award is in important signal that we are creating and strengthening this proactive relationship.”
Pfizer La Jolla Labs applied for the award earlier this year and was notified that it would receive the award in March. Shiel attended the EPA Award Ceremony at the EPA Region 9 headquarters in San Francisco in April.
“Pfizer has a corporate policy that states our commitment to continuous improvement in all of our environmental, health and safety programs,” he said. “With Pfizer La Jolla being a member of the San Diego biotech community, we strive to demonstrate our commitment locally and share with other companies. We are active members of the Industrial Environmental Association, a local organization devoted to promoting environmental compliance and stewardship.”
