If you were among the many who missed the lecture on Louis Rose, take heed. La Playa Trail Association brings back author, historian, and Rose expert Donald H. Harrison for its Sept. 17 lecture. Harrison, author of the book, “Louis Rose,” will speak on the 150th anniversary of Rose’s settlement of Roseville in Point Loma. Everyone is welcome with a suggested donation of $10 at the door at Point Loma Assembly, 3035 Talbot Street. Light appetizers are served 5:30 to 6 p.m. with the lecture at 7 p.m.
In 1869 German-Jewish immigrant Louis Rose established his legacy. “Roseville is a lovely spot of land that is beginning to assume an importance and attention worthy of the citizens of San Diego,” noted the San Diego Union, in April of that year.
Harrison is current editor and publisher of the daily online San Diego Jewish World. He served as editor-in-chief of the award-winning San Diego Jewish Press-Heritage and columnist for San Diego Jewish Times. His journalism career also included a shift with the Associated Press.
In addition to some timely Point Loma history, Harrison will mention his recently published book of Jewish anecdotes, “Schlepping and Schmoozing Through San Diego County, Volume 1: City of San Diego).”
Noted on a blog of Jacob Kamaras, The Times of Israel, “Even most Jewish residents of the San Diego area are unaware of the region’s rich Jewish history, reflects Harrison, whose determination to find a Jewish story everywhere shines through on every page.”
