The La Mesa Youth Advisory Commission will open a time capsule placed by the 1992 Youth Advisory Commission at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13 in front of La Mesa City Hall (8130 Allison Avenue).
The time capsule was placed on Aug. 18, 1992, with the vision, hopes and expectations of La Mesa youth, their families and the community for the year 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the opening ceremony had been delayed until this year.
“I am curious to see what was placed in the time capsule” said La Mesa Mayor Mark Arapostathis. “I hope this will give the current Youth Advisory Commission some insight to what was happening in La Mesa at that time.”
The Youth Advisory Commission will add a new time capsule which will encompass La Mesa youth’s lifestyles, memories of the 2020s, and their thoughts on what the world will look like in 2050.
Parking will be available in the City Hall parking lot, located at Date Street across from the La Mesa Police station.
The City encourages you to walk, bike or take public transportation to this event.
