The La Mesa Police Department continues its investigation into a call involving gunshots around 6:19 p.m. on Memorial Day in the area of the Helix High School student parking lot, near Normal Avenue and Lowell Street. The school was closed for Memorial Day at the time of the incident.
Two vehicles were seen leaving the parking lot after the shots were heard. During a search of the area, an officer located one of the vehicles parked along the 4200 block of Parks Avenue.
The occupant of the vehicle (Hispanic male 20 years of age) had gunshot wounds to his leg. Officers rendered first aid and the male was transported to the hospital for treatment. The injuries were considered non-life threatening.
The suspected shooter is described as an Asian male in his 20’s wearing a white tank top and blue jeans. The suspect was last seen leaving the parking lot in a mid-2000’s tan or gold Toyota sedan or similar vehicle.
Neither the victim or the suspect are believed to have any association with Helix Charter High School.
Detectives from the La Mesa Police Department’s investigations unit are handling this case which is ongoing at this time.
