La Mesa First United Methodist Church’s in-person city council candidates’ forum returns on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
The forum will be held in the church sanctuary beginning at 7 p.m. at 4690 Palm Ave., La Mesa.
Wednesday’s forum follows FUMC’s long tradition of hosting this non-partisan activity. The forum will be live-streamed and recorded on the church’s website, Facebook, and YouTube pages.
All six candidates have agreed to participate.
The candidates are current La Mesa Mayor Mark Arapostathis and former City Councilmember Kristine Alessio vying for the mayoral position, and four candidates are competing for two City Council seats. The candidates for City Council are civil rights advocate Mejgan Afshan, businesswoman Patricia Dillard, La Mesa Councilmember Laura Lothian, and Pastor Tony Orlando. Pastor Christian DeMent will moderate the forum.
Community members will ask candidates about homelessness, housing and business development, environment, and cultural diversity.
