The La Mesa Chapter of Letitia Coxe Shelby NSDAR Daughters of the American Revolution announced a winner for its 8thgrade American History contest.

Tristan Villedieu (pictured above), from Rio Seco School in Santee, was named the winner.

The theme of the NSDAR 2022/2023 American History contest is “Delegate to Second Continental Congress” and students were asked to write an essay as if they were a delegate during the 1775-1776 Congress.

They were asked to choose a colony to represent and write about what would be important for them to accomplish for their chosen colony as a delegate.

Villedieu, 14, chose the commonwealth of Massachusetts. His winning essay was forwarded to District XIV California State Society NSDAR (CSSDAR) where it was judged by the stringent requirements of NSDAR.

Villedieu’s essay was again selected the winner besting out students from all over San Diego and Imperial Counties. His essay has now moved for judging at the state level by the CSSDAR.

On Feb. 11, Villedieu was honored at the LCS NSDAR monthly chapter meeting. He received a medal, certificates of achievement and monetary awards.

NSDAR encourages all chapters to promote and conduct the American History essay contest.

All grade 5, 6, 7, and 8 students in a public, private, or parochial school, and those who are homeschooled are eligible. This contest is conducted without regard to race, religion, sex, or national origin.

For more information or if you are interested in becoming a member of NSDAR contact: [email protected].
