The San Diego Police Foundation will meet with San Diego business and community leaders to celebrate and honor law enforcement leaders at the 2015 Women in Blue luncheon on Wednesday, March 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the San Diego Marriott La Jolla in University City. This year’s selected honorees are Anastasia Smith, captain, internal affairs/professional standards unit; Chris Haley, program manager of information services; and Tina Williams, northern division lieutenant and SWAT executive officer. Considered trailblazers in nontraditional careers, the women will share insights and anecdotes from their paths to success with an anticipated crowd of more than 300 at the fifth annual event. Chief Shelley Zimmerman, in 2011 one of the inaugural honorees, will deliver the luncheon keynote address. This year’s program will feature information on the foundation’s SafetyNet: Smart Cyber Choices work to prevent cyberbullying and the victimization of children online. This year’s presenting sponsor is Verizon Wireless; other sponsors include ESET, Cox Communications, curbi and Mission Federal Credit Union. Attendees are invited to bring their used mobile devices and accessories to the luncheon as part of Verizon’s HopeLine initiative. HopeLine recycles these items, using the proceeds to support nonprofit domestic violence agencies like the San Diego Family Justice Center, a program administered by the police department. The Women in Blue program recognizes women in law enforcement and raises funds to support the police foundation’s work to provide unmet needs for equipment, training and outreach for the police department.
