La Jolla dining is all about mom this weekend

Celebrate the woman who gave you life and taught you everything you know by getting her out of the kitchen and treating her with a special meal out on Mother’s Day. Here are a few options around town to show mom just how much she means to you.

• Treat mom like royalty at Beaumont’s Eatery or sister restaurant Brockton Villa for a special “Queen Bee” brunch. In addition to Beaumont’s classic brunch menu featuring signature favorites, the neighborhood eatery is offering a $25 Mother’s Day brunch special, which includes an entrée selection, choice of specialty coffee or cocktail, dessert and a $10 Beaumont’s weekday lunch gift card. Try one of the restaurant’s signature dishes, like the carne asada benedict or Brockton Villa’s famed Coast Toast, or try something new like the truffle brie vegetarian omelet. Beaumont’s Eatery is located at 5662 La Jolla Blvd. For more information or to make reservations, call (858) 459-0474 or visit www.beaumontseatery.com. Brockton Villa is located at 1235 Coast Blvd. For more information call (858) 454-7393 or visit www.brocktonvilla.com.
• Mother’s Day is such a special day for the folks at George’s California Modern that the oceanfront restaurant — typically only open for dinner — will open its doors from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for a special Mother’s Day brunch. Chef Trey Foshee has created a menu just for mom that features a variety of appetizers and classic brunch entrées with the restaurant’s signature California modern twist. Delectable dishes include brioche French toast with Chino Farms strawberries, eggs benedict with fresh dungeness crab, and prime short rib hash with poached eggs, mushrooms and parsley salad. Refreshing brunch cocktails will also be available for mom’s enjoyment alongside a stunning ocean view. George’s California Modern is located at 1250 Prospect St. To make reservations, call (858) 454-4244 or visit www.georgesatthecove.com/california-modern.
• Cater to mom’s sweet tooth with a special Mother’s Day treat from Sprinkles Cupcakes. The cupcakery will offer a MOM Box featuring dark chocolate, red velvet, vanilla and lemon cupcakes adorned with Sprinkles daisies and sugar decorations. For that special touch, the box will be sealed with love with a “Mom loves cupcakes” sticker. The MOM box will be available from May 11 to 13. To pick up a box, visit Sprinkles at 8855 Villa La Jolla Drive. For more information, call (858) 457-3800 or visit www.sprinkles.com.
• Let mom indulge in the myriad offerings at La Valencia’s sumptuous Mother’s Day brunch buffet, served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Divine options include made-to-order omelets and Belgian waffles, smoked salmon benedicts, king crab legs with cocktail sauce, seafood étouffée, pasta and carving stations, and a sweet assortment of spring desserts. La Valencia’s Mother’s Day brunch is $85 per person and $38 for children 12 and under. If mom and daughter are looking for a getaway this weekend, La Valencia is also offering “Beauty and the Beach,” a spa and yoga experience on May 12. The event will feature yoga and poolside spa services, kicking off with an all-levels Vinyasa flow yoga class in La Valencia’s picturesque ocean-view garden. Next, guests can indulge in an afternoon of relaxation and beauty and enjoy their choice of two spa treatments, ranging from an organic facial to a mini manicure/pedicure. La Valencia is located at 1132 Prospect St. To make reservations, call (858) 551-3761 or visit www.lavalencia.com.
• Treat mom to the gift of fine dining at Donovan’s Steakhouse on Mother’s Day. Classic dinner options include the steakhouse’s signature USDA prime steaks, fresh sides and decadent desserts. To make her feel extra special, Donovan’s will send a complimentary “Happy Mother’s Day” e-card from Donovan’s website and a long-stemmed rose upon her arrival. Seating will be available from 3 to 9 p.m. Donovan’s in La Jolla is located at 4340 La Jolla Village Drive. To make reservation, call (858) 450-6666 or visit www.donovanssteakhouse.com.
• The charmingly intimate Finch’s Wine Bar and Bistro, located at 7644 Girard Ave., is a great place to help mom escape her responsibilities and stress for a while. For Mother’s Day, Finch’s is serving up great deals on libations, including bottomless mimosas and a Bloody Mary bar that are sure to help her relax, even if just for a couple hours. Try any of Finch’s fresh Sunday brunch fare at affordable prices, while enjoying the smooth tunes of local musician Barry Cohen as he entertains guests with his versatile repertoire of velvety jazz sounds and elegant Latin pop guitar ballads on the patio. For more information, visit www.finchslajolla.com or call (858) 456-4056.
