PEGGY HINAEKIAN ART AT LA JOLLA COMMUNITY CENTER

La Jolla-based artist Peggy Hinaekian’s work will be on display throughout August and September in the La Jolla Community Center’s Great Room, 6811 La Jolla Blvd. Hinaekian describes her paintings as atmospheric and lyrical and says she is inspired by the warm earth tones of the desert landscape. LA JOLLA COMMUNITY CENTER ANNOUNCES AUGUST CONCERTS

This month, the La Jolla Community Center will host concerts on Aug. 17, 23, 24, and 31, at 6811 La Jolla Blvd. At 7 p.m., Aug. 17, David Roberts and the Sounds of Sinatra will perform swing and big band music. The Rob Thorsen Trio will perform songs by Duke Ellington and Wayne Shorter with a reception at 7 p.m. and a concert at 8 p.m., Aug. 23. From 5-6:30 p.m., Aug. 24, world-class virtuoso violinist Yonatan Leviim will perform the work of Bach, Telemann, and Paganini. At 7 p.m., Aug. 31, the KatieCat & Cain Jazz Trio will perform jazz, bossa nova, and the blues. WINE D’VINE FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT FOSTER YOUTH 

The annual Wine D’Vine fundraising event benefiting Walden Family Services’ programs for foster youth will begin at 6 p.m., Oct. 11, at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla, 3777 La Jolla Village Drive. This year’s event will feature wine from California’s leading vineyards, gourmet cuisine, and a concert by Train. BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS ANNUAL GOURMET DINNER

Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County will host its 57th annual gourmet dinner from 5:30-7 p.m., Oct. 10, at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla, 3777 La Jolla Village Drive. This event will feature a seafood cocktail party, gourmet dinner, hosted bar, silent auction, and live music. For the past 57 years, this event has brought together 700 local businesses and community leaders to fund over 500 children for a full year. ATHENAEUM PRESENTS LECTURES SERIES ON THE WORK OF VAN EYCK

The Athenaeum Music and Arts Library will host a series of art history lectures on artist Jan Van Eyck at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14, and 21, in the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Music Room, 1008 Wall St. In this series of three lectures, art historian Linda Blair will explore Van Eyck’s influence on other artists, his chivalric paintings, and his work’s intersection between reality and fantasy. Tickets for all three lectures are $36 for members and $51 for nonmembers; tickets for individual lectures are $14 for members and $19 for nonmembers.
