PACIFIC BEACH — SeaWorld San Diego announced the death of a killer whale Tuesday, Sept. 7. The orca was a 12-year-old male named Sumar. He died at approximately 1:45 p.m. and the cause of death is not yet known. According to the SeaWorld website, a necropsy will be performed on the whale. The park does not expect to have the results of the necropsy for several weeks. SeaWorld trainers noticed that the whale was acting “lethargic,” according to the website. Veterinarians administered a dose of antibiotics on Monday, Sept. 6. The afternoon Shamu Show was cancelled for Sept. 7.
